We just filed a FEC complaint against Georgia dark-money groups for their spending to influence the 2020 election.
Here are the facts John:
-
In 2020, an unknown donor gave over $3 million to a newly created group called Policies, Solutions, and Action for America
-
THEN: PSAA gave nearly half of those funds to a super PAC called Georgia United Victory, and the rest to another nonprofit called RightOn Issues
-
THEN: RightOn Issues split their money from PSAA between Georgia United Victory and two other super PACs, Georgia Action Fund and RightOn Time.
John, if you found that hard to follow,
that’s exactly the point — because this is what dark money groups do. They swap money back and forth to hide where money is coming from, and to wield influence over our elections without any accountability or transparency.
Ultimately, nearly $2.8 million was spent on political activity without ANY disclosure about the source of these funds.
These organizations attacked Senator Jon Ossoff, ran ads on Facebook, and sent mailers urging voters to “vote against socialists.”
The law requires the disclosure of the true source of political contributions and bars contributions in the name of another. That’s why CREW is taking action.
Day in and day out CREW fights for transparency in our government and shines a light on corrupt dark-money organizations. If you support our mission and our work, please make a donation today →
These donors and groups remain anonymous – illegally – to try to shield themselves from accountability and transparency. But voters deserve to know who is behind the ads they are reading and the mailers they receive before the election, and who is bankrolling a candidate’s campaign so that they can make an informed decision at the ballot box.
Not only is it morally wrong to hide this information – hiding donations from the public like this is against the law.
When groups like these violate the law, CREW will hold them accountable.
Please support our work by making a donation to CREW today and fight to get big money out of politics and for a more transparent government →
