‌The debt ceiling is not a bargaining chip, John.

It was true during Trump's four years when Republicans overwhelmingly voted to raise the debt ceiling three times without trying to hold our economy hostage. It's still true today.

Unfortunately, the new Republican majority in the House doesn’t seem to understand that. They’ve refused to raise the debt ceiling, and they’re still holding our economy hostage in hopes of cutting key government programs.

This is unacceptable. We’re the United States–we keep our promises, we pay our debts, and we should never let partisans tank the Full Faith and Credit of our nation just to achieve their political goals. That's why Chris introduced the Protect Our CREDIT Act to protect our economy and stop future leaders from extorting our debt.

If you support protecting our economy from being held hostage, sign our petition to call on Congress to pass the Protect Our CREDIT Act >> [link removed]

By reforming the process in a way that maintains congressional oversight and completely de-weaponizes the debt ceiling, we'll be able to honor our promises to America's families and senior citizens.

Thank you,

Team Coons
