I started my career with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Spring of 2003 as a National Service Officer representing/advocating for Veterans and their dependents for benefits sought from the Veterans Affairs (VA). The gentleman that recommended me for the position must have noticed my desire to serve our fellow Veterans. He was right; I feel like I have found my niche in life. In October of 2004, I pursued an open position as a Veterans Claims Representative and was offered a position within the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) out of the Fargo Claims Office. Since that time, I have enjoyed the positive leadership and mentorship that I received. Over the years, I have worked for a handful of different Commissioners and leaders who have promoted a work-life balance for me. With these experiences I feel I?ve been able to make a difference in the lives of employees I directly supervise and promote a work life balance. I?m now the Deputy Director of our Claims Division.
My wife and I have been married for 28 + years with two children and soon to be four grandchildren. The opportunity of growth and security working for MDVA has afforded us the ability to live a comfortable lifestyle. You won?t get rich or famous advocating for Veterans, but you?ll feel very rewarded representing our nations Veterans and their families.
As a Marine Veteran, MDVA has given me the opportunity to serve my two brothers and son (who are also Marine Veterans) as well as extended family and Minnesota Veterans overall. The Veteran community is a small percentage of our nation?s population with needs that can be somewhat different from others, the training and skills MDVA has provided me has allowed me to assist in changing lives in a positive manner and given me a rewarding career.
