Hi John, my name is Elias, and I work for the IRC as the communications lead for Syria. A key part of my job is communicating the urgency and devastation Syrians face. And now, in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake and hundreds of aftershocks in Syria and Türkiye (aka 'Turkey') those most vulnerable face the most dire of circumstances.
The toll has soared to over 17,000 lives lost and thousands more are in urgent need of assistance as blisteringly cold conditions threaten their livelihoods without shelter. A tragedy of this magnitude will take years to recover.
My colleagues in Syria and Türkiye are already hard at work, despite these harsh winter conditions, to roll out our response efforts. That's why I'm writing to you today, John.
Â
John, these earthquakes are yet another devastating blow to so many vulnerable populations already struggling after years of conflict.
It is a crisis within multiple crises — temperatures are plummeting to below zero leaving hundreds of thousands exposed. Women and children will find themselves particularly at risk of exploitation and abuse should they find themselves once again displaced.
IRC teams are on the ground now and working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well–being of our staff, local partners and those affected.
One of the most effective ways you can support our response efforts is by making an emergency monthly pledge. Monthly donations are the backbone of our work, and ensure we can sustain support for vulnerable communities all year long.
Here are some of the things your monthly gift can provide when you pledge your gift right now:
Â
John, the best way you can help our relief efforts right now is by starting a monthly gift to help power our response in the coming months in Syria, Türkiye, and crisis zones worldwide.
I'm so grateful I can rely on the IRC supporters like you in times of crisis, I'll keep you updated on our emergency response.
