Friend, the late Congressman John Lewis was one of our boldest and most persistent fighters for civil rights – including the right to vote.

In his youth, Lewis organized alongside leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. in the South, helping to plan the 1963 March on Washington and the Selma to Montgomery marches. Lewis went on to represent Georgia in Congress for over 30 years.

During his final years in office, Congressman Lewis was committed to protecting voting rights for all Americans by passing a new bill that would expand on the 1965 Voting Rights Act – a key piece of legislation that passed thanks to the activism of Lewis and other civil rights leaders.

Unfortunately, Senate Republicans blocked this new bill from passing – but now, Congressional Democrats are renewing the call to expand voting rights by passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, a new bill named in honor of the late Congressman.
