Two years ago, the Maine Democratic Party launched a “Sixteen County Tour” where we solicited feedback from volunteers and local leaders. One of the big themes raised across multiple forums was the importance of recruiting and supporting candidates with Democratic values at the municipal level . So, last spring, we piloted a local organizing program and hired our first Municipal Organizer to spearhead it.

Organizing at the community level is critical to building a long term Democratic movement in Maine. Building on the progress the Party has made electing Democratic candidates at the local level, I’m excited to announce that we’ve invited Dan Lord to join the team as a full-time Local Organizing Director . Dan is a skilled local organizer with experience working with the Maine House Democratic Campaign Committee to recruit and support candidates running for the Maine House of Representatives. Dan helped Maine Dems win special elections in 2021 and 2022 and has experience recruiting Democrats to run in the most rural parts of the state. In this new role, he’ll be working hand-in-hand with municipal candidates, Democratic Municipal Committee officers, and volunteers on the ground to win these critical local elections. Want to learn more? Dan will be leading a series of Run Local Trainings to teach candidates and volunteers the basics of running municipal campaigns.
