Map manipulators are comfortable bending -- or even breaking -- the structures of our democracy to maintain power.

Hey team,

I have to level with you there are ongoing threats against our democracy that will have a consequential impact on 2024 and beyond.

Here’s how map manipulators and conservative extremists are doubling down on their anti-democratic tactics in 2023 and taking things a step further:

→ taking political opportunity to gerrymandering maps
→ suppressing voting power
→ failing to improve the fairness of state legislative maps

TAKE ACTION FOR FAIR MAPS TODAY!

North Carolina
Conservative legislative leadership filed a petition to reconsider the Harper v. Hall ruling that struck down the legislature’s gerrymandered state senate map. This is an attempt to undermine the state’s system of checks and balances and seek political opportunity, under their belief that new justices on North Carolina’s supreme court would side with them simply because they have the same party affiliation.

Ohio
Last month, House Bill 458 was signed into law. This bill will force Ohioans to show a state-issued photo ID when voting in person, denying voting access to many Ohioans that previously voted using an alternate form of identification indicating their current address. It also eliminates early voting on the Monday before Election Day, shortens the deadline to apply to cast absent voters’ ballots by mail and limits polling place accessibility.

Texas
The Texas Senate is gearing up for another round of redistricting. According to the Texas Demographic Center, communities of color have accounted for over 95% of growth during the previous decade. A new state legislative map should reflect this demographic shift and allow communities of color the opportunity to vote for their candidate of choice. However, experts predict no significant changes to the maps.

Remember that all the progress we have made is fragile. And I want to be clear. We must act now to protect our democracy. The new wave of radical gerrymandering and threats to our democracy are happening at this very second.

All On The Line needs your help today. Will you rush a contribution to boost us in our fight against gerrymandering?

We must take unified action and put a stop to the outrageous extremist agenda in 2023.
