Dear John,

China poses a 360-degree threat to America. The Chinese spy balloon that the Pentagon detected last week is a perfect example of why we need to protect America from the Chinese Communist Party.

I joined Fox Business to talk about the balloon – watch here or at the photo below.

This is a major concern to me. I’m working with my colleagues on the Select Committee on China to gather information and find out ways to address the threats by the CCP and protect America’s national security. One way to do so is by protecting our land and food supply.

Last week, I cosponsored a few bills to protect our farmland and ag businesses from the CCP.

• Promoting Agriculture Safeguards and Security (PASS) Act
• Foreign Adversary Risk Management (FARM) Act
• Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People’s Republic of China Act

These bills will prohibit our adversaries, such as China, Russia, Iran and North Korea, from buying farmland and ag companies. China has increased their ownership of foreign-owned ag land in the past ten years. We need to protect our food supply. China should not have control over it.

The bills also add the Secretary of Agriculture as a standing member of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to take agriculture and food needs into account when making decisions affecting our national security, such as land and business purchases by our adversaries. We need to give agriculture a seat at the table. After all, food security is national security.
