Dear John,

One of the few conservative news networks was dropped by a major television provider--but you can do something about it.

On Tuesday, January 24, DirecTV abruptly removed conservative news channel Newsmax from its platform after pressure from Democratic members of Congress.

The sudden move to cancel the fourth highest rated cable news channel, which reaches about 25 million Americans is yet another example of what happens when the political Left is in collusion with the communication giants.

In February 2021, Democrats on the House Energy and Commerce Committee sent a letter to television services including DirecTV's majority owner AT&T, pressuring them to stop airing what they deem "misinformation" from Newsmax, Once America News Network (OANN), and Fox News. A year later, their efforts succeeded with the deplatforming of OANN. Now it seems Newsmax is the target.

DirecTV officials say they ended the feed at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, because Newsmax wanted to receive payments (as most networks do) and did not want to pay a carriage fee - allegations Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy described as "simply false."

Chris is right when he says, "This is a blatant act of political discrimination and censorship against Newsmax."

Conservative congressmen are now questioning whether DirecTV is deplatforming conservative voices to constrict political debate. In fact, a group of senators sent a letter on February 1 to the cable provider demanding information about the decision alleging that this "may be the latest example of big business suppressing politically disfavored speech at the behest of liberal Democrats."

The pattern is clear and dangerous.

If social media and cable are the gatekeepers who cancel and censor content, where can conservatives go for news and information?

Family Research Council knows what it's like to be deplatformed for speaking the truth. That's why we started our own programs and platforms to report on issues affecting your faith, family, and freedom including our daily Washington Watch broadcast and our news outlet, The Washington Stand.

John, you don't have to just sit back and watch this unfold.

You can make a difference right now by signing our petition calling on DirecTV and AT&T to bring Newsmax back their lineup and to stop censoring conservative viewpoints!

Our goal is to gather thousands of petitions this week to deliver to AT&T and DirecTV's corporate leadership. Thank you in advance for signing the petition and for standing with us in countering censorship of conservative viewpoints.

The Petition in Support of Newsmax states:

I, the undersigned, am outraged at AT&T and DirecTV's decision to drop Newsmax from your platform. Free speech is a God-given right that is protected under the U.S. Constitution. That includes conservative and Christian viewpoints that deserve to be covered in the news. As Newsmax is the biggest U.S. cable news network reporting on issues vital to people of faith and affords faith leaders the opportunity to offer their views to millions of interested Americans, I call upon AT&T and DirecTV to bring Newsmax back to your lineup. Unless this decision is reversed, I will not be conducting any further business with your products and services.
