What comes to mind when you think of democracy?
For us, the first image that pops up is a voting booth. Or a ballot. Or an “I Voted” sticker.
Democracy cannot exist without the freedom to vote — yet many people across the country don’t have full and guaranteed access to that freedom. Particularly for voters of color and young voters, deep systemic barriers in the electoral process have meant that countless voices aren’t heard. A system that leaves out voices is not a reflection of a true democracy.
President Biden delivered an uplifting State of the Union address last night, where he covered vital issues like rebuilding the middle class, recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, and continuing to pursue racial justice. And, he hit the nail on the head when he said, “In America, we must protect the right to vote, not suppress that fundamental right. We honor the results of our elections, not subvert the will of the people. We must uphold the rule of the law and restore trust in our institutions of democracy.”
Regardless of what’s in the headlines or what bills are prioritized in the halls of Congress, Fair Fight Action will always remain grounded in our mission of protecting the freedom to vote. We need concrete plans and allies — on the national level — on our side, so we can continue to dismantle barriers to voting amongst voters of color and young voters.
Let's show the country that voting rights is an issue worth fighting for — today and every day. Will you chip in $20 to join our movement to make the freedom to vote a local, state, AND national priority?
Fair Fight Action was founded to shine a spotlight on and work to dismantle modern-day voter suppression. Although not new, systemic racism resulted in rampant voter suppression in the Peach State, disproportionately affecting Black and brown folks. Our team became a key on-the-ground, activist-powered organization to combat voter suppression attempts in Georgia, and since then we’ve advocated for expanded voter access to make it possible for more voices to be heard at the ballot box.
In 2020, Black and brown voter turnout broke records. In 2022, the youth voter bloc boomed and early voter turnout reached high levels. Our people power is strong enough to scare the anti-democratic bigwigs — so they’ve spent every day since trying to make it harder for people to vote.
In 2023, we’re closely tracking threats to voting rights in the Georgia legislative session, reaching eligible voters in their communities, and advocating for expanding ballot access amongst Black, brown, and youth voters alike ahead of the 2024 election. Anti-voter lawmakers continue to introduce more voter suppression bills across the country — but Fair Fight Action remains laser-focused on stopping them.
There’s so much left to accomplish in the fight to secure our voting rights, in Georgia and on the national level. We’re committed to continuing to protect our democracy, and we hope you’ll be there with us every step of the way. Donate $20 right now to support our efforts and help shine a national spotlight on the issue of voting rights.
Thank you for everything,
The Fair Fight Action Team
