Hi John,
President Biden ran on the strongest gun safety ticket in history. Under his leadership, Congress took the first meaningful action to address the senseless gun violence epidemic in a generation. Last night, he called on Congress to build on that progress by reinstating the federal assault weapons ban, which he supported back in ‘94 and decreased the likelihood of mass-shooting fatalities by 70 percent.
Biden also called on Congress to finish the job on police accountability by taking real action to put an end to police brutality. No one should have to fear for their life when stopped by the police. And no one should have to put their life on the line to try to stop a mass shooter.
We commend President Biden for what he has done so far to address the gun violence epidemic, but the Safer Communities Act was just the beginning. The fact that there have been more mass shootings than days in 2023 proves how much more work we have left to do to end gun violence in all its forms.
Every day that Congress fails to pass additional gun safety measures, more than 100 people are killed by guns. We can’t afford inaction.
Please, take a minute to email your federal representatives and urge them to act on gun responsibility now.
