Team,

Last night, President Biden spoke directly to the American people in his State of the Union address. I want to briefly share some thoughts with you—about our progress over the last two years, about my special guest to the State of the Union, and about the work ahead.

We have made historic progress under President Biden and the Democratic majority. Unemployment is at its lowest rate since 1969, and inflation is starting to come down. We have taken steps to tackle climate change, improved veterans’ healthcare, and passed a robust infrastructure bill to rebuild our roads, rails, and bridges. These are just a few of the victories Democrats have delivered for the American people in just the last two years.

I chose my State of the Union guest with this progress in mind, as an opportunity to highlight our work on bringing down drug prices. Last night, I was honored to be joined by Mrs. Marguerite Bailey Young, a 94-year-old widow from Fredericksburg who relies on daily medications including two types of insulin. After Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act, her insulin costs dropped significantly and she no longer has to worry about whether she will be able to afford her life-saving medication. Going forward, we need to finish the job of capping exorbitant insulin prices for all Americans. I was proud to see President Biden recommit to that mission in the State of the Union.

On this and a number of other issues, President Biden made clear that we are not finished making progress for the American people. Here are a few of the other priorities mentioned last night that Democrats will champion going forward into the 2024 Presidential Election:

* With the family of Tyre Nichols and a heroic survivor of the Monterey Park shooting in the gallery, President Biden made a bold call for police reform and an assault weapons ban. Democrats can and must lead the fight to make our communities safer.

* We know that civil rights and reproductive freedom are under attack in states around the country. The President made clear last night that Democrats won’t back down from defending the rights and dignity of every American.

* We are also going to need a bipartisan deal to raise the debt ceiling, protect the full faith and credit of the United States, and prevent a financial catastrophe.

These are just a few of the important priorities Democrats are going to pursue in the coming months. I won’t sugar-coat things, Team, the next couple years are going to be tough. Between the House Republican opposition, a difficult 2024 Senate map, and a potential Trump-Biden rematch, we are going to have to work hard to continue making progress for the American people.

In the face of that challenge, I want to ask you to stand with me, with President Biden, and with Democrats around the country who are committed to this effort. Let’s answer the call in last night’s State of the Union address to keep fighting for the American people. Will you make an investment in this progress and chip in $5 to help us continue our progress? [link removed]

Mark Warner
