John,
Six months after the Dobbs decision, overturning Roe and stripping us of our constitutional right to access abortion. Dozens of extreme bans preventing people from getting the healthcare they need. Thousands of people forced to travel thousands of miles, using time off work they don’t have and money they can’t afford. An imminent decision in a court case that could ban an approved and effective method of abortion with pills.
And last night, President Biden gave it three paragraphs. [1]
Don’t get us wrong. We were happy to hear the President use the word ‘abortion’ instead of yet another euphemism. And we are grateful that he unequivocally stated that he would veto a national abortion ban if it were passed by Congress.
But that is not enough.
We have already seen the horrific consequences of overturning Roe: pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions, debates of whether a ten-year-old should be able to access abortion, rape victims who would be forced to report against their wills just to get healthcare.
And they won’t stop there.
Their push towards a personhood amendment would outlaw things like IVF, Plan B, and even forms of hormonal birth control.
This frightening future deserves more than three paragraphs at the tail end of a two hour speech.
Give to show you agree.
Sincerely,
Erin Matson
