Pres. Biden can't stop fentanyl trafficking with open-border policies
Illegal immigration is reason enough to control borders!

Dear John,

President Biden promised a "unity agenda" last night, including plans to disrupt fentanyl trafficking. He's right that fentanyl is a full-blown crisis. In the past year, the drug-overdose epidemic has actually shortened Americans' life expectancy even more than the coronavirus epidemic.

One obvious requirement to cripple the importation of fentanyl is to get a grip on the chaotic U.S. Mexico border. Unfortunately, the president is so ideologically blinkered, he won't take the steps necessary to stop illegal crossings. Securing the border should be a top priority even without the fentanyl trafficking. Instead, the president has chosen policies which have made illegal immigration much, MUCH worse!

Two million people illegally crossed the border last year, and this year, the number could be still more. But instead of controlling our borders, the president is working hard to make it easier to illegally cross our borders. Last night, in his State of the Union address, Biden boasted that his new border policies announced last month have already cut illegal entries by Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans.

What he didn't say was that his new policy is bringing in 30,000 of these persons each month and giving them work permits while their mostly-dubious asylum claims are put into a years-long backlog for a court date. In only one year, the president's new policy will release a third of a million people into the interior of the U.S. that the law states should be in detention while waiting for their court date!

Pres. Biden is ignoring current law. We need Republicans in the House to start passing border-control legislation that's so tough it can't be ignored. Rep. Chip Roy's H.R. 29, the Border Safety and Security Act, is one good step. It would turn back hundreds of thousands of would-be border-crossers, like Pres. Trump's Remain in Mexico policy did. Under this bill, states could sue the federal government if a president ignored the law.

Last fall, Republicans ran on promises to control the border, and we plan to hold them to their promise. We co-authored a letter to put them on notice that failing to act on the border would be a betrayal of the voters who put them into office, joining 15 other organizations such as the Heritage Foundation, FAIR and Judicial Watch, and former officials like Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott and former House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith. (Read the major Fox News story including the letter text.)

We need your help. All of the organizations who signed the letter do good work for reducing immigration and controlling our borders. But we're the ones who flood Congress with so many messages from their constituents. We don't just tell Congress that they should pass legislation; we prove that their constituents are actively watching them. Please go to our Action Board and see what you can do to help. But don't leave just yet!!!

We need your financial help. For every one person who donates to NumbersUSA, we help one hundred people make their voices heard. So while it's absolutely essential that all of our members use our system to message Congress, you can actually do literally a hundred times more by donating to NumbersUSA.

Here's some of the letter to Congress (emphasis added):

"During the final months of the 117th Congress, you made an unwavering commitment to "Secure the Border and Combat Illegal Immigration" and to "End catch-and-release loopholes." This was echoed as a rallying cry on the campaign trail, and we are encouraged by the stalwart freshman class joining your ranks this Congress in the fight for America's future. The time for action is now.

"The previous Congress failed the American people by refusing to hold the Biden Administration, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, accountable for a historic border crisis intentionally created by their policies. Consistent with the American Security Task Force Framework unveiled last summer, the new House majority has meaningful solutions to secure the border, including to "expand authorities like Title 42," "change asylum laws to protect legitimate claims and prevent fraudulent claims," "end abuse of parole authority," and "require implementation of [Migrant Protection Protocols]," amongst other critical items.

"The undersigned coalition was proud to work with you to strengthen this plan and hold the line against lame-duck open-border policies, and now stands ready to assist you in turning these proven policies into meaningful legislative reforms... This is a commitment Americans expect you to fulfill; more importantly, they deserve immediate action."

Do you agree with this letter? Would you like to see Congress achieve these goals? Well, we know that it's not as easy as simply voting for a stand-alone bill. Our allies are going to have to fight tooth and nail and not simply continue to pass "must pass" bills without demanding accountability from the administration. But the first step is passing a bill in the House. And we need that to happen, NOW, or we'll get simply more blank checks from Congress.
