President Biden had an opportunity to utilize his State of the Union address to rally the American people together and create a bipartisan response to the Chinese Communist Party’s recent threats. 

Biden could have used this moment to show American strength and resolve, but he chose not to. He dodged discussing China’s balloon flying over our country or the national security concerns surrounding TikTok.

“This should be a Sputnik moment. Not because the capabilities of this balloon were equivalent per say to Sputnik in the late ‘50s but because this illustrates that the threat posed by the CCP isn't just an over there problem. It's a right here, at home problem. It’s a threat to our sovereignty."

President Biden should seize upon this moment to be honest with the American people about failures in our system leading to this incursion into our airspace that was not dealt with quickly enough. Then galvanize the American people around a bipartisan response to defend ourselves, to defend our sovereignty, to do what’s necessary to ensure the Chinese Communist Party doesn't think they can get away with something like this.
