House Democrats recently introduced H.B. 51 — which would finally grant D.C. statehood and give an equal voice to the people living there.

dcist: Proponents of statehood argue that D.C. residents deserve the same representation as other U.S. citizens because they fulfill other responsibilities like paying federal taxes, doing jury duty, and serving in the military.

Republicans’ arguments against D.C. statehood are flimsy at best, and they’d rather silence D.C. residents than risk a majority-Democrat state.
