Republicans in Congress have proposed a new tax plan that would eliminate the federal income tax, dismantle the IRS, and impose a 30% national sales tax on most goods and services. That means prices would go up for goods Americans buy every day, like groceries, cars, homes, healthcare, and more–when inflation is already high.

Because lower-income families and individuals spend a higher percentage of their income than higher-income households, the proposal amounts to a massive scam to shift the tax burden from the ultra-wealthy onto the backs of working families.
This plan is designed not only to benefit the wealthy. It highlights the ongoing issue of unfair wages for workers who have not seen a minimum wage increase since 2009 despite rising inflation. This plan is out of touch, and Congress cannot support it.
