Missouri Net News [link removed] Super Bowl Challenge
While the big game on Sunday gives us a chance to root for our team, it also provides an opportunity to share the United Methodist witness while helping the hungry. Bishop Bob Farr and Bishop David Wilson of the Great Plains Annual Conference (Kansas and Nebraska) have picked up on an idea from Rev. Adam Hamilton of the Church of the Resurrection to enter a friendly competition with fellow United Methodists in the Philadelphia area to see who can provide the most sacks of food for the hungry this Super Bowl Sunday.
Bishop Farr is asking that you share on your social media channels, via emails to your congregation and by word of mouth to encourage your congregations and communities to bring food to worship this Sunday, Feb. 12. Count how many sacks of food have been brought, take a photo of it, and email your district office with the information before you deliver it to the food pantries in your mission field. We encourage you to share the photo on your social media networks with #BeUMC #SuperBowlChallenge #SuperBowl #SBLVII. Please also tag the Missouri Annual Conference (@moumethodist) with your social posts.
If Missouri-Great Plains wins, Bishop John Schol, the episcopal leader in the Greater New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania conferences will send our bishops Tastykakes and Philly Cheesesteaks. If we lose (Mahomes & Co. won't let us down!), Bishops Wilson and Bishop Farr will send Kansas City barbecue to Bishop Schol in Pennsylvania. Let's help our neighbors while enjoying the fun of the game to conclude the NFL season! Let’s go Chiefs!
