Sacrificing Social Security is not how to balance the budget.

Friend,

The Sacramento Bee just published an article that basically advocated for the GOP’s plan to cut Social Security by as much as 30%.(1)

The military budget just surpassed $800 billion a year.(2) Donald Trump oversaw $2.3 trillion in tax cuts during his administration, mostly to the wealthy and corporations.(3) Now the GOP wants senior citizens to foot the bill?!

In last night’s State of the Union, President Biden got Republicans to promise to protect Social Security -- but off camera, Republicans are singing a very different tune.(4) The MAGA Republicans are using the debt ceiling fight as an opening to cut essential programs that we’ve already paid for, including Social Security. We are rallying hundreds of thousands of people to demand that our representatives pledge not to touch these programs.

Sign our petition now demanding that Congress pledge to not cut Social Security!

The GOP’s idea to cut Social Security is draconian. The plan would not only increase the retirement age to 70, but it could potentially lower the average benefit of $1,827 to less than $1,300.(5)

Let’s be clear: Social Security pays for itself. It’s our money that we’ve paid in over the years, to be available to us in retirement.

But MAGA Republicans are calling it “fat and garbage.”(6) And they’re playing a terrible game of chicken with our government in order to kill the program.

We need Democrats and moderate Republicans to stand strong and refuse to cut essential social services in the name of raising the debt ceiling. Will you sign on today?
