Hi John.

As you may know, the President addressed the nation last night in his State of the Union Address. He spoke before a new majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, demonstrating that cooperation and finding common ground will be crucial as we move ahead. Although I didn’t agree with everything the President said, I appreciated the chance to hear more about his plans.

Listening always helps me do a better job, so now I want to hear more about your priorities. My job is to bring your voice to Washington. Please click below to begin sharing your views with me >>

As the President and a new majority in the House of Representatives begin their work this year, would you say that you’re:

• I’m positive and hopeful for the future.

• I’m reserving judgment for now. I need more time to see how things take shape.

• I have serious concerns.

• Other / I don’t know.

Last night, I was looking for the President to share his plans for the challenges that lay ahead, both at home and abroad.

I didn’t agree with everything the President shared. I believe both parties should be open to conversations about the upcoming debt limit—though I don’t think threatening Medicare and Social Security is an appropriate negotiating tactic.

I’m glad though the President acknowledged the need for continued oversight and implementation of some of our key bipartisan accomplishments from the last two years.

That includes the new Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that’s already making an impact here at home. We also passed a bipartisan manufacturing law that’s making it possible to build more in America.

I also appreciated the President’s focus on addressing China, both in an economic and national security context. I hope that will also be an area of bipartisan cooperation in Congress.

Lastly, I was honored to have Jessica – a recent Johnson County Community College graduate – join me as my special guest for the occasion. Jessica will enter the trucking workforce to provide for her family. This is exactly the type of job and industry supported by the bipartisan infrastructure and manufacturing laws we passed last session.

I know families in Kansas are depending on both parties finding common ground whenever possible. That’s what I intend do as we move forward so we can build a better future with more jobs and lower prices.

It is an incredible honor and privilege to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives. My job is to serve every person and corner of our community, whether we agree on every issue or not. I look forward to reviewing your feedback in our survey – and as always, feel free to contact my office!
