One thing that your state freedom caucuses are doing on a routine basis is killing procedures and legislation that will never make the headlines. What used to pass with little opposition is now being challenged…for the first time…by our 100+ state lawmakers across our 10 state freedom caucuses.

Supporters of bad bills are now realizing that they’ll actually have to speak out and defend their bad bills. Some of them now don’t want to go through the arduous effort. They were comfortable passing such legislation in the dark. But now that we’re exposing it to sunlight, they decline to fight…and we win.

Case in point…the blue state of Illinois.

Back in December, the Illinois Freedom Caucus called on the Springfield Establishment to end the use of the “consent calendar”.

This innocuous sounding calendar is actually quite nefarious. Liberal Democrats who control the Illinois House, along with some Republicans, allowed dozens of bills to be lumped together and passed with limited debate and only a single up-or-down vote. Most of the bills on the consent calendar are portrayed as harmless, but they include such things as automatic benefit increases for retired bureaucrats (who are already overpaid). Another bill would give woke universities the ability to more arbitrarily admit students based on things other than standardized test scores.

Last week, Illinois Democrats – faced with a possible public debate with the ILFC – decided to kill the consent calendar outright. Instead of thousands of bills passing swiftly into law without debate they must now go through the slow, deliberate process of “regular order”.

Bottom line – Six brave conservatives in Illinois were able to face down 78 Democrat House members and won.

Even in blue states like Illinois, we’re taking the fight to supporters of big government. This is how we win…even when the odds are stacked against us.
