In Jesus’s message to the church in Pergamon, He commended them for their original steadfastness during persecution, even during the martyrdom of Antipas, traditionally known as the head of the church in Pergamon. But Jesus imparts a warning to the church of the great evil that existed in Pergamon. The church there had begun stepping away from the truth of the Gospel and had started trusting in false teachers and religions. Jesus called them back to the true faith and gave them the promise of an eternal reward if they stood strong in it.
