John,

Last night President Biden was at his best. His speech was personal, and
laid out a progressive and promising vision for our future.

My favorite moments included President Biden talking about holding big
corporations and billionaires accountable. From cracking down on stock
buybacks to creating good-paying jobs, we can build an economy that works
for working people. Capitalism can and should be about lifting up
workers.

A phrase you hadn’t heard at a State of the Union since 1989: “antitrust.”
From getting rid of junk fees to going after Big Pharma, the President
laid out a bold consumer protection agenda, building on the work we’ve
started.

My guest was the head of the California Labor Federation, Lorena Gonzalez
Fletcher. She's a fierce advocate for California’s union workers, and it
was exciting for us to hear about plans to make more things in America,
along with the President's strong support of the Protecting the Right to
Organize (PRO) Act.

Republican heckling over non-compete clauses unfortunately showed how
beholden some of my colleagues are to corporate interests. Non-compete
clauses simply exist to keep workers making lower wages.

My bill to hold Big Pharma accountable when they raise the price of
prescription drugs faster than the rate of inflation was mentioned, as one
of the important pieces of legislation we passed when Democrats controlled
Congress. That bill took effect on January 1st.

Now, Congress needs to help President Biden deliver a strong economy that
uplifts working people. Let’s get to work!
