An update from Directors
In December, we promised to share updates as our team continues to work diligently on co-creating Headwaters’ next chapter. As we settle into the new year, we’re excited to share some additional updates with you!
We came together last month for an all-staff retreat to continue planning and strategizing about our organizational structure and shared-decision making frameworks. We left the three-day retreat feeling deeply energized, and while there is still work to be done, we got clarity on how we want to move our innovating work forward.

Honoring Black History Month at Headwaters
As a community foundation that holds Black liberation as one of our guiding principles, we join community in celebrating the history, present, and future of Black life, power, and movements for justice in our communities. During this Black History Month, we look towards liberated Black futures, guided by community.
We are also holding this month's celebration alongside grief and anger, as we once again witness the murder of Black folks at the hands of police. We stand in solidarity with communities demanding justice for Keenan Anderson and Tyre Nichols. We know that a future where Black communities are free from state violence is possible and on its way. We are proud to support Black-led organizing throughout Minnesota that moves us closer to a future of justice, healing, and freedom.
Join us in finding ways to center and honor Black joy, life, and liberation with us – both during this Black History Month, and every day. In solidarity, celebration, and reverence.

Director of Operations & Finance.<[link removed]>
The Director of Operations & Finance (DOF) leads and manages financial systems, human resources, and supports staff. The DOF will be responsible for developing Headwaters' financial management strategy and contribute to the execution of the strategic plan. The DOF will be charged with continuous development and implementation of policies and procedures to foster a high-growth, mission-driven nonprofit organization.

AICHO's Giinawiind Giginitaawigi'gomin: Together We Grow Youth Program is setting up a pop-up shop in front of Indigenous First Art and Gift Shop in the AICHO Lobby on Saturday, February 11 from 12 pm - 3 pm.
Products are made by our youth and include: Lotion Hearts, Soy Sage Candles, Bath Bombs, Tea Mixes, Chocolate Cocoa Bombs, Wild Rice Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits and for the gardeners in your life - Worm Juice fertilizer, and so much more!

With the legislative session starting up, you may be wondering what the fight for immigrant justice will look like in 2023, and how the Jewish community can show up.
This is an opportunity to come together with other JCA members, local congregations, and our allies about transformative immigration policy, as well as non-legislative work happening on the front lines.

All are welcome to please come to the event and memorial march for MMIW, MMIWR in support to families, relatives, and community as we collectively march to honor lost loved ones. Please help bring the needed visibility & awareness to: Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives by keeping the focus on honoring / memorial for lost loved ones. Families and Community please bring photos of lost loved ones.
Our goal of the event & memorial march is to increase visibility of our Missing and Murdered, lost loved ones and to honor them-we request no other actions at the event or march that may takeaway or derail the focus from its intended purpose of honoring lost loved ones- Honoring MMIW, MMIWg2S, MMIWR.

OutFront is excited to announce a new monthly webinar “LGBTQIA2S+ 101” that covers important definitions, guidance on pronoun usage, and other best practices on creating queer inclusive spaces. Every month non-profit organizations, volunteers, small businesses, and community members are invited to join a small team of OutFront Minnesota trainers to go over these topics and hold space for any questions.
These trainings are designed to help foster safer spaces for all people, minimize harm, and equip you with the tools necessary to genuinely interact with queer folks.
American Indian Community Gathering: Reimagining the Mounds<[link removed]>

Lower Phalen Creek Project is excited to host this series of community conversations along with our co-hosts from the American Indian Family Center, Ain Duh Yung Center, Oyate Hotanin/InEquality, Metropolitan State University and Saint Paul Indians in Action.
This series is designed specifically to engage the American Indian community in learning sessions led by LPCP’s Cultural Resources Manager, Franky Jackson and guest speakers, followed by conversations facilitated by LeMoine LaPointe that focus on the landscape at what is now known as Indian Mounds Regional Park in Saint Paul.
The February 16th session will focus on the history of repatriation at the site, and potential for future repatriation of our ancestors.

Have people incarcerated and want to better learn how to support them? Or want to learn about or help change the prison system by supporting incarcerated people, directly?
Join the Twin Cities Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee for an hour and a half training on responding to grievances in prison.

Our Leadership Agenda for Abortion Access creates a clear path, but legislators need to hear from you that reproductive rights, health, and justice is still a priority for you.
You will get the resources and training you need to be equipped to talk to your representatives. You’ll also get to hear from leaders and healthcare providers across the state who are fighting for reproductive freedom. The day will culminate with a rally in the rotunda.
