President Biden Delivers State of the Union Riddled with Half Truths Meant to Deceive Listeners

Daily Wire: President Joe Biden made numerous false or misleading statements during his opening remarks in his State of the Union address Tuesday evening. Biden started out by making misleading claims about the economy, claiming that he “created a record 12 million new jobs, more jobs created in two years than any president has ever created in four years.” Biden failed to note that many of those jobs were people coming back to jobs that they lost during the pandemic. Biden touted how gas prices have gone down slightly, but failed to note that they skyrocketed to all-time highs during his administration. Biden claimed that inflation is coming down, but failed to note that inflation levels have remained high throughout his administration and peaked at 40-year highs (Daily Wire). On multiple occasions throughout the speech, President Biden began screaming into the microphone. RNC Research: BIDEN, screaming: “Name me a world leader who changed places with Xi Jinping. Name me one. NAME ME ONE” (Twitter). Joe Biden also demanded the US ban assault weapons. Graham Allen: COME AND TAKE IT JOE (Twitter)!

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders Delivers Response to Biden’s State of the Union Speech
CBS: Sanders claimed Mr. Biden and his Democratic colleagues have “failed” the American people, and declared that it’s “time for a change.” Sanders focused her response on many of the “culture war” issues that have motivated conservatives, and largely bucked the message of unity and bipartisanship that wound through Mr. Biden’s address. Instead, she attacked the president as the “first man to surrender his presidency to a woke mob that can’t even tell you what a woman is.” Sanders criticized Mr. Biden for his border policies, claiming they have led to a flood of fentanyl crossing the border, and accused the administration of being beholden to “woke fantasies” (CBS). RNC Research: Gov. @SarahHuckabee: “Biden is unwilling to defend our border, defend our skies, and defend our people. He is simply unfit to serve as commander in chief” (Twitter).

US Surpasses Trade Deficit Record in 2022
Wall Street Journal: The U.S. posted its largest trade deficit on record last year, as global demand weakened amid high inflation, climbing interest rates, disruptions due to the Ukraine war and the pandemic’s continued effects. Just the News: Exports increased 17.7% last year to $3 trillion, while imports rose 16.3% to $4 trillion, data shows. Bill Gates Defends His Climate Hypocrisy
Daily Wire: Climate advocate Bill Gates recently attempted to justify using private jets by noting his investments in various green technology initiatives. The Microsoft co-founder spurned accusations of hypocrisy during an interview with the BBC in Kenya broadcast on Friday, claiming that his decision to “spend billions of dollars” on climate innovations such as carbon capture systems more than accounts for his personal carbon footprint (Daily Wire). Fox News: Gates has already invested over $2 billion toward climate technologies. This includes investments in direct air capture in addition to solar energy and nuclear fission. Private jets are 5 to 14 times more polluting per passenger than commercial planes. One private jet can emit two tonnes of CO within an hour (Fox News).

IRS Proposes Restaurants Report Tips
Why are tips any of their business? Fox News: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed a revenue procedure this week to crack down on the service industry’s reporting of tips. The Service Industry Tip Compliance Agreement (SITCA) program would be a voluntary tip reporting system in which the IRS and service industry companies cooperate. As part of the proposal, the IRS will give the public until early May to provide feedback on the program before implementing it. According to the IRS, the program would seek to “improve tip reporting compliance,” reduce administrative burdens and provide more transparency and certainty to taxpayers (Fox News). Daily Caller: The IRS has been moving to crack down on small transactions, including through a requirement that digital transactions over $600 be reported to the agency on 1099-K tax forms (Daily Caller).

Virginia House Approves Legislation Keeping Schools Accountable to Parents Regarding Gender Dysphoria
Washington Times: The Virginia House approved legislation Tuesday that would prevent schools from keeping parents in the dark about their child’s gender transition. Known as Sage’s Law, the bill passed the Republican-led state House by 50-48 over the objections of Democrats who said the legislation was aimed at “forcibly outing transgender students.” House Bill 2432 requires school employees to notify parents if a student is self-identifying as “a gender different from the student’s biological sex,” and clarifies that treating children based on their sex at birth does not constitute abuse or neglect (Washington Times). Sarah Weaver: The bill is named after a teen girl who was sex trafficked and raped after the state removed her from her parents custody for “misgendering.” Sage’s school had hid her new male identity from her parents, even as Sage was being abused in the men’s bathroom she now used (Twitter).

Earthquake in Turkey, Syria Rises to 7,800 People
Reuters: The death toll of a devastating earthquake in southern Turkey and Syria jumped to more than 7,800 people on Tuesday as rescuers worked against time in harsh winter conditions to dig survivors out of the rubble of collapsed buildings. As the scale of the disaster became ever more apparent, the death toll looked likely to rise considerably. One U.N. official said thousands of children may have died (Reuters). CBS: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that he was declaring a state of emergency for three months across 10 provinces in the earthquake zone. The country’s vice president, Fuat Oktay, told reporters that 8,000 people had been pulled from under rubble. Nations from around the world began pouring aid material and rescue teams into the region. Oktay said rescue teams from 14 countries were already in Turkey and teams from 70 more nations were expected as the day progressed (CBS).

Hill: Zoom announced Tuesday that it was cutting about 1,300 jobs, a 15 percent reduction of its workforce. Zoom CEO Eric Yuan said that the company didn’t take as much time to understand whether it was sustainably growing, adding that the uncertainty of the global economy pushed it “to look inward to reset ourselves so we can weather the economic environment.” He added that he was reducing his salary by 98 percent for the coming fiscal year and foregoing this year’s corporate bonus. His executive team will also reduce their base salaries by 20 percent and forfeit corporate bonuses (Hill).
