If you’ve ever wondered exactly how much power a District Attorney has when it comes to criminal legal reform, Tyre Nichols’ case is a great example.

Real Justice

John, if you’ve ever wondered exactly how much power a District Attorney has when it comes to criminal legal reform, Tyre Nichols’ case is a great example.

In 2022, we helped elect Steve Mulroy as District Attorney of Shelby County in Tennessee. And he has been instrumental in seeking justice in Tyre Nichols’ death.

So far, DA Mulroy has charged five officers who beat Tyre to death with murder, and 8 more officers will also be facing charges. This is why integrity, civil rights-minded and justice-seeking are the values that we look for in DAs across this country.

Our latest endorsement, Arlington and Falls Church Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, shares these same values in office and has made a huge impact in Virginia. And she is facing strong opposition so we need your help to make sure she remains in that seat.

Please help us re-elect this incredible leader in Virginia by making a split donation to Parisa and Real Justice so that we can work hard to make sure she can keep holding police accountable for violence and misconduct.

Like DA Mulroy, Parisa has focused on police accountability ever since taking office. Within 18 months of being sworn in, Parisa had a Critical Incident Response Team and a Community Oversight Board in the works to independently review and investigate police when they use force. These are both firsts in her community.

This is crucial to stopping police violence before it happens by reducing the sense of impunity that so often leads to cops acting so violently. And also by making sure that police are held accountable when they do commit violence and misconduct.

DA Mulroy did what others referred to as “incredibly rare” and charged the officers involved in brutalizing Tyre with second degree murder within weeks of the incident. For way too long, DAs would cover up instances of police misconduct and shield officers from accountability.

We saw that with DA Jackie Johnson in Ahmaud Arbery’s case — where she refused to charge his killers because she was friends with them. But DA Mulroy has shown what happens when we elect DAs who take the necessary steps to hold violent cops accountable.

And Parisa has done so much to contribute to that work for accountability in Arlington and Falls Church, VA and, because of that, conservatives are spending BIG money to take her seat and rescind all the progress she’s made.

We cannot let that happen. We know that we need DAs like Parisa everywhere to implement progressive policies that demand due process, justice and accountability.

We need to defend our bold justice-minded leaders like Parisa while also working to elect more DAs like Parisa and Steve all across this country. Will you split a donation today between Parisa’s campaign and Real Justice to support her re-election bid and fund our work in helping elect change-agents nationwide?

Gratefully,

Real Justice
