Today marks the final day of Gun Violence Survivors Week, folks.

This is the week— the first week of February —when gun deaths in the United States typically surpass the number of gun deaths experienced by peer countries in an entire calendar year.

It’s an unacceptable reality—and it’s why I’m supporting the Bipartisan Background Checks Act as one of the MANY critical, common-sense gun reforms this 118th Congress MUST pass to keep our communities safe and prevent gun violence.

Every day in America, roughly 110 people are shot and killed, more than 200 survive gunshot wounds, and countless others experience the trauma and horror that coincides with gun violence.

Last year, Democrats in Congress led the way on taking guns out of dangerous hands by passing the Safer Communities Act , which closed the ‘Boyfriend Loophole’ to ensure convicted domestic abusers could not purchase firearms and also increased investment in school security.

But there’s still so much work left to be done. And that work starts by demanding Congress pass the Bipartisan Background Checks Act before it’s too late.
