HFA Needs Volunteers 55 and Older!
Volunteers needed! Hunger Free America is looking for people aged 55+ to share their time, passion, and talents by joining us to fulfill our mission of ending domestic hunger. Through this flexible program, sponsored by AmeriCorps Seniors, volunteers can apply their skills (in-person or virtually) to support local anti-hunger charities. Interested volunteers, please send an email to [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .
Fighting for the Farm Bill

Some people think the federal Farm Bill - which is supposed to be reauthorized/modified by Congress every five years or so - should concern only farmers who rely on it. But in truth, it should concern every person who eats.

It contains the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP - formerly called the Food Stamp program) which is budgeted to spend $147 billion this year, dwarfing the role of charity in fighting hunger. All major domestic hunger programs – except school meals and WIC for pregnant people and children under five – are authorized by this bill, including programs to help low-income people obtain more fresh produce at farmers markets and elsewhere.

Learn more about the importance of the Farm Bill, and about HFA's recommendations for this year's bill HERE ([link removed]) .

Then make sure to contact your Representative and tell them how important it is to protect SNAP funding and other anti-hunger provisions.
