The people of Pakistan have limited access to food after water washed out crops and killed hundreds of thousands of livestock. Infectious diseases are on the rise, leaving millions vulnerable to illnesses caused by what the United Nations called a “monsoon on steroids.”
Millions of people lost their homes due to flooding, and more than 1,200 people have died since mid-June — 453 of them children — according to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority. The nation’s Climate Change Minister said parts of the country “resemble a small ocean.”
