John,
This evening, President Biden will give his second State of the Union address -- his first one with a divided Congress.
Much has been accomplished under the Biden administration this past year. From passing the Inflation Reduction Act, to passing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act -- the largest gun safety bill in 30 years -- to signing the Respect for Marriage Act into law, this administration has time and again put vulnerable communities and families first.
We are excited to invite you to join us tonight at 9pm ET/6pm PT as we live-tweet during the State of the Union and hear President Biden’s vision for the next two years.
Thanks to our hard work, together, we were able to achieve:
5.3 million people lifted out of poverty by the expanded Child Tax Credit (all too temporarily, but President Biden is expected to call for restoring the expanded CTC in his speech)
A 30% one-year increase in affordable child care funding (to $8 billion) and $12 billion for Head Start
A nationwide summer food program for children for 3 months each year, to reduce hunger when school is out
$3.6 billion for Homeless Assistance Grants, and new Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers to support over 11,700 additional low-income households, the largest ever one-year increase
Expanded maternal and child health programs -- more funding and enactment of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
Making corporations and the rich pay more of their fair share in taxes, including a 15% minimum tax on corporations, and increased IRS funding to crack down on wealthy tax cheats
None of this would have been possible without supporters like you. Join us tonight at 9pm ET/6pm PT to go over our achievements and look forward to what’s possible in the years ahead.
Thank you for all you do,
Deborah Weinstein Executive Director, Coalition on Human Needs
