Friend,

I'm running for Senate against Susan Collins (R).

Here's why: I'm a firm believer that when you're elected to public office, your job is to get things done for the people you represent, not to fall in line behind the demands of someone else. That idea has guided my work -- on town council, as a state representative, and as Maine's Speaker of the House.

But it sure doesn't seem like Susan Collins thinks the same way.

She's taken more than $1 million from drug companies and the insurance industry. She voted for Trump's tax scam, which overwhelmingly benefited corporations and the wealthy. And she helped put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court -- a move that put a woman's right to make her own health care choices in extreme jeopardy.

Bottom line: Donald Trump and special interests can count on Susan Collins to stand with them, but Mainers cannot. That's why I'm asking: Will you split a $5 donation to support my campaign and Democratic Senate candidates across the country?

I know what kind of progress is possible when we listen to the people we represent. In my time as Speaker, we've passed commonsense legislation to lift families out of poverty. We've strengthened our efforts to combat the drug crisis that affects too many people in this state. We've worked to prohibit insurance companies from being able to deny coverage to the thousands of Mainers with pre-existing conditions or charge seniors more for their coverage.

I've seen firsthand that it's still possible to come together and fight for real, meaningful change around the issues we all care about: health care, education, jobs, our environment. But you have to be willing to work for the people who elected you to get the job done. Susan Collins doesn't seem to understand that. I do.

I hope you'll support my campaign and Democrats like me running for Senate seats nationwide. Pitch in -- split a $5 donation between my campaign and the DSCC today:

Thank you,

Sara Gideon
U.S. Senate candidate, Maine

Sara Gideon has a proven record of fighting for meaningful progress on issues affecting Mainers, from health care to jobs to environmental protections. Now, she's running against Susan Collins to make sure Mainers have someone they can count on in the Senate. And she's depending on this grassroots community to help her flip this key seat red to blue.
