Countering the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) Land Grab
I joined more than 40 of my colleagues in introducing the Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People’s Republic of China Act. This legislation would prohibit the purchase of public or private agricultural land in the United States by foreign nationals associated with the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
To allow China, governed by the Chinese Communist Party, to acquire farmland near and around key military and otherwise strategic areas of the United States, is as dumb as it gets. Not only are these purchases of key areas of farmland a threat to our national security, but it is a threat to our food security as well. This must end, and I am proud to co-sponsor legislation to do just that.
Working to Reverse President Biden's WOTUS Rule
The Biden Administration recently issued a new final rule defining "waters of the United States" (WOTUS). For decades, confusion, regulatory uncertainty, and litigation have surrounded the scope of federal authority over our nation’s waters, and this final rule continues that uncertainty.
Given the Supreme Court will soon issue a ruling impacting any new definition of WOTUS, Biden's rule is both poor policy and badly timed. It will once again place overly burdensome regulations on farm families, small businesses, infrastructure projects, and entire communities – further harming our already struggling economy. In other words, this ruling restarts the clock for anyone hoping to begin or expand a construction project. Not only does it make it more complicated to actually receive a permit, but it limits that amount of land that is even eligible. Also, rushing to issue a new rule ahead of the Supreme Court's forthcoming decision is premature and creates more complications.
The new WOTUS rule needs to be rescinded so Americans across the country are protected from subjective regulatory overreach. That's why this week, I was proud to lead 152 of my colleagues in Congress in introducing a Congressional Review Act resolution to terminate this onerous rule. Utilization of the Congressional Review Act is the best and most appropriate way for the House to make its collective voice heard and push back against this regulatory overreach.
Denouncing the Failures & Horrors of Socialism
With my support, the House passed legislation delivering on our promise to create a future built on freedom. The resolution denounces socialism in all its forms and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States of America. Additionally, the resolution outlines the failures of socialist systems citing examples in the USSR, China, Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela. It also highlights the incompatibility of the founding principles of the United States of America with socialist ideologies. Socialism has failed in every country it has been tried. We must not let it destroy America too. It is revealing and disappointing that roughly a third of House Democrats voted against this resolution denouncing socialism.
