She wasn’t capable of giving informed consent at 15 to a double mastectomy, yet medical professionals encouraged her down the path.

Prisha Mosley suffered from a slew of mental illnesses as a young teen, including anorexia, borderline personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, suicide ideations, and depression.

At 15, Mosley discovered transgenderism online. “A lot of the things I heard really rang true with me. Like, ‘You are trans if… You hate your body, you don't feel comfortable with it, you want to be a different person,’” she said.

The transgender community “love bombed” her and celebrated the idea that she was “born in the wrong body.” The medical community recommended she pursue a medical transition, despite Mosley’s well-documented history of mental health issues.

So at 17, Mosley started testosterone injections to masculinize her body. Less than a year and a half later, Mosley pursued an elective double mastectomy, which left her flat-chested and with nipples, she said, that were cut off, reattached and “almost lost.”

Now 24, Mosley is back to living as a woman — as much as her body will allow. She’s struggling to come to terms with the physical damage these so-called experts encouraged her to pursue as a gender-confused, mentally ill teen.

By sharing her story, including her most intimate scars, Mosley hopes to save others from her mistakes, and pressure the medical community to re-evaluate its standards for “gender affirming care.”
