John, ADL has just released two trailblazing investigative reports that reveal how to disrupt paths that extremists are using to recruit supporters, raise funds and conspire to plan hateful actions.

Bad Gateway: How Deplatforming Affects Extremist Websites
This report is a rare look at the internet infrastructure that provides vital services to extremist websites. These findings, released by the ADL Center for Technology & Society based on the work of an ADL Belfer Fellow, are proof that deplatforming (removing infrastructure that online platforms rely on) can reduce the spread of online hate and harassment.
We looked at several extremist websites that had been deplatformed after ADL and others raised concerns, including the neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer and 8chan/8kun, a website where users anonymously post hateful content. In these cases, when internet infrastructure companies deplatformed them, the websites were forced to find other ways to stay online. The Daily Stormer, for example, has struggled to remain online after 17 different domain name changes in response to deplatforming.
The study found that deplatforming quickly reduces the popularity of the website. Sometimes the website never regains its previous audience size.
Armed with these important findings, we are providing advice for internet infrastructure companies, policymakers and advocacy organizations so we can keep up the heat on extremists.
TAKE ACTION: Please join ADL in calling on internet companies to unite against hate and stop doing business with extremists. Sign the petition now.
