LEGISLATIVE DIGEST
Week of January 13, 2020
Dear John,

It was a great week for Nebraska's ag and trade industries with the signing of the first phase of the US/China Trade Deal and the Senate's passage of the USMCA. This is a major victory as Nebraska is a leading export state and these trade agreements will make us stronger!

This week I joined Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-07) to introduce a bill to help veteran firefighters. The Michael Lecik Military Firefighters Protection Act aims to provide veteran firefighters will the compensation, health care, and retirement benefits they earned with their military service.

Other legislation this week included H.R. 1230 the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act. I joined 260 colleagues to vote yes and pass this bill relating to age discrimination. Read my statement here.

H.J. Res 80 Approving the request of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for a waiver under section 1703E(f) of title 38, United States Code This joint resolution approves the request of the VA for a waiver of certain dental care eligibility requirements in order to implement a pilot program focused on expanding veteran access to dental care services. This passed on a voice vote.

H.R. 5315  Expanding Opportunity for Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs) Act This legislation would create a program where large, established, financial entities would be allowed to serve in a mentorship role for the benefit of small financial institutions and minority depository institutions. It passed on a voice vote.

H.R. 4841 Prudential Regulator Oversight Act This bill would increase Congressional oversight of federal regulators charged with implementing the Dodd-Frank Act. It passed on a voice vote.

This week, I have a packed schedule in the District as I meet with constituents and attend area events. Have a great week!

Don
