Board Chair Don Brown appointed by The National Association of Counties (NACo) to serve as Energy, Environment and Land Use (EELU) Steering Committee Member

NACo

Board Chair Don Brown will be joining other legislative leaders in Washington, D.C. following his appointment as a NACo EELU Steering Committee member. Brown will participate in monthly conference calls to stay up to date on developments from Capitol Hill and discuss local and national environmental issues with colleagues across the country. “I’m excited to have been given this new level of responsibility to not only allow me to better serve my community but the nation as a whole.” Said Brown. “I’m eager to work with other EELU members as we collaborate and bring new policies to our state and federal leaders that are in the best interest of our environment and the counties we represent.”

The NACo EELU Steering Committee is responsible for all matters pertaining to air, water, energy, and land use, including; water resources/management, stormwater, pesticides, air quality standards, solid, hazardous, and nuclear waste handling, transport, and disposal, national energy policy, renewable/alternative energy, alternative fuel vehicles, energy facility siting, electricity utility restructuring, pipeline safety, oil spills, superfund/brownfields, eminent domain, land use, coastal management, oceans, parks and recreation.

NACo believes that protecting the environment and the conservation and development of the nation’s resources are obligations shared by citizens, private enterprises and all levels of government. Congress and federal agencies often look to NACo for feedback on legislative policy decisions being made in Washington D.C.

Brown, along with other members of the EELU will be addressing environmental health and safety, ensuring responsible energy development and conserving and protecting essential natural resources by building effective partnerships between all levels of government, citizens and the private sector.
