January/February Newsletter Dear Friend, I hope you had a great holiday season and that your 2023 is off to a good start. This new year has brought an opportunity for the Republican majority in the House of Representatives to start providing solutions to the issues that matter most to the American people. Last year, we promised the country we would pass legislation in the House to lower inflation, build a strong economy, secure our nation and hold government accountable. In just the first legislative month, my GOP colleagues and I passed several bills that might interest you: We rescinded the $80 billion of funding for the 87,000 new IRS agents established by the Democrats. We created the new Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. We passed the Born Alive Survivors Protection Act, which ensures children that survive failed abortions receive proper medical care and get a chance at life. We protected our oil reserves from being sold to China by passing the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act. In addition, one of my bills passed the House two weeks ago. The Settlement Agreement Information Database Act (SAID Act) requires the federal government to set up a searchable database of all federal consent decree settlements that will be overseen by the Office of Management and Budget. My bill is particularly focused on consent decrees resulting from lawsuits filed by outside grievance groups against state and local governments that are costing taxpayers billions of dollars. These settlements are extremely difficult to terminate and can last for decades draining millions of dollars from state and local government. At this time there is no way for anyone in elected office or on the federal judiciary to even know how consent decrees are in place. Officials at the U.S. Department of Justice or in the federal judicial system do not have files on these decrees. If enacted into law, the SAID Act will enable everyone to know what settlements are still active and where they apply. If enacted, this will be one of the most significant transparency laws we have seen in years. The SAID Act passed the House without opposition (425-0) on January 24th. Lastly, I also co-sponsored the Articles of Impeachment for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Our southern border is in shambles, and he has intentionally neglected his duty to secure our southern border. He must be held accountable for his lack of action which has caused terror and chaos in countless American cities in the across the southwest. As you can see, my Republican colleagues and I plan to continue fulfilling our promises we made to you. I look forward to updating you on our progress in the future. It is truly an honor to represent you in the 118th Congress. If my office can be of any assistance to you, please feel free to fill out a form here or call our office at (202) 225-4921 or (205) 968-1290. Sincerely, Gary Palmer In the News The past month was filled with many news items I think you will be interested in. I believe it is important you know where I stand on these critical issues. So, please read and listen to these articles and interviews at your convenience. You can also find them HERE on my website. Committees and Leadership for the 118th Congress: In the 118th Congress, I will be returning as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee. I will also be rejoining the Energy and Commerce Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. I look forward to working with these committees to defend the rights of the American people and offer sound policy solutions. Palmer Announces Committee Assignments, Rejoining the Committee on Oversight Government Transparency: The American people have been kept in the dark about legally binding agreements made by federal agencies for too long. When my GOP colleagues and I promised to hold the government accountable, that included federal agencies. That is why I introduced the Settlement Agreement Information Database Act (SAID Act). The SAID Act will substantially increase transparency, oversight, and accountability by making these records publicly accessible. The bill passed the House 425 – 0. A few weeks ago, only two democrats voted for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. That means that only two democrats in the House expressed support for a baby to receive medical care after surviving a failed abortion. I believe in the sanctity of human life - end of story. You can read and listen to my thoughts on the matter here: Yellowhammer: Palmer: Democrats ‘deluded in thinking’ on abortion The Yaffee Show- 1.12.23 Gas Stoves: Earlier last month, an unelected Biden appointee said in an interview the US Consumer Product Safety Commission was weighing the idea of banning gas stoves. While the agency in question attempted to back track their statements, it is part of a larger issue. Bureaucrats should not have the type of power to even consider these actions. Over 40 million Americans use gas stoves, and I believe a federal agency should not have the ability to ban commonly used products without a vote from your elected representatives.
