Team – the Supreme Court is considering cases that could gut key provisions of the Voting Rights Act and make it easier for politicians to gerrymander. All of this comes after it issued a decision that eliminated abortion rights in some states.
A.G. Holder had this to say:
Now, the situation at the Supreme Court could go from bad to worse.
The Fulcrum:
“Moore v. Harper could haunt American democracy.”
MSNBC:
“It is not an overstatement to say that this case could completely upend elections and erase the power of our votes for president.” |
Republicans are advancing a dangerous right-wing legal theory that, if taken to the extreme, would give GOP legislatures unchecked power to gerrymander, implement extreme voter suppression tactics, and even refuse to certify legitimate presidential election results.
The outcome of this case could have grave consequences for our democracy…and that leaves us with two options:
OPTION ONE: We can do nothing.
We can sit back, ignore the warning signs, and simply hope that Republicans’ dangerous theories are shut down.
OPTION TWO: We can keep fighting.
We can resolve to continue our work of mobilizing communities and electing leaders who will defend our democracy against these ongoing attacks.
We can’t control how the Supreme Court will rule, team, but we can resolve to continue fighting for our democracy – no matter what happens. That’s why the NDRC is taking Option Two.
