Dear John,
Innovation and technological change are key drivers of increases in productivity, which in turn, is the basis for higher standards of living.
But a new study published by the Fraser Institute today finds that innovation in Canada has declined relative to a peer group of 15 similarly advanced countries in recent years.
Meanwhile, innovation in the United States is on the rise.
Between 2014 and 2022, Canada’s ranking on the Global Innovation Index declined from 10th to 12th among the top 15 innovating OECD countries. Over the same period, the U.S. increased its innovation ranking from 6th to 2nd highest.

Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
