At least 5,000 people are dead. Thousands more are still feared trapped under mountains of rubble.
Andmillions of people hit by the quake are trapped in war-torn northern Syria, almost completely cut off from international aid , in the grip of a brutal winter.

But one brave group of Syrian volunteers is already responding, digging people out of the rubble and preparing for a massive relief effort.The White Helmets are the best hope for people in parts of Syria .
