Today is #SaferInternetDayđź’». We hand picked resources for you to support young people to stay safe online

Hello John

I hope you're keeping well.

Today is Safer Internet Day, which we at NYCI are delighted to support. We all have a role to play in supporting young people to use the internet and digital technologies safely and positively. To mark the day, we've lots of useful resources and campaigns to share with you!

#SilentWitness

This year for Safer Internet Day, Webwise is running a campaign promoting respect and empathy online. Thousands of children and young people in youth services and schools are running events and activities to promote a safer, better internet and encourage everyone to report online bullying and abuse. Your device may be a #silientwitness ([link removed]) , but you don’t have to be!
Empowering Young People Online

Here in NYCI, we want to empower young people to be effective, autonomous, and safe users of technology and online media. The Child Protection Programme has developed two resources to support this:

Last year, we partnered with Webwise to adapt their Connected: An Introduction to Digital Media Literacy programme for youth workers ([link removed]) to provide a resource that contains information, workshops, and practical activities that can be used by youth workers and volunteers in their work with young people.

The second resource, our Online Safety and Awareness in Youth Work eLearning course ([link removed]) specifically for youth workers and volunteers working with young people. This eLearning introduces key topics in online safety and addresses the challenges that young people may face online.
There is lots more going on in this space which I'd like to update you on, but the main message is that we are working to support young people in a positive way to stay safe while getting the best out of the online world.

I'd love to hear your feedback on the resources above
John. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to get in touch,

Kind regards,

Siobhán
