POV In The Field
  • Yesterday, POV presented The Feeling of Being Watched at the Television Critic's Association 2019 Press Tour in Los Angeles, along with filmmaker Assia Boundaoui and other guests. Stay tuned, and find out more about the film here.
  • Last week, the African Interactive Arts residency with POV Spark launched in Washington, DC, with residents getting acquainted with the archives at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History & Culture, as well as the Center for African American Media Arts.   • Two weeks ago, POV joined Arizona Public Media in Bisbee, Arizona, for a community event series commemorating the 102nd anniversary of the deportation, joined by filmmaker Robert Greene. Find out more about his film, Bisbee '17 here.

Early Bird tickets will available August 2 for the third annual American Documentary Annual Gala, scheduled for Wednesday, October 2 at Public Arts in Manhattan. Fall Internship at American Documentary

Applications to our fall internship program are now open! We are accepting applications until August 2.

Interns will gain training and mentorship through our hands-on educational program, designed to provide a "behind-the-scenes" look at public media and the documentary field. We are committed to working with individual interns to meet their unique learning objectives.

Submissions for the 2020 POV Season End on Wednesday, July 31.

  • Standard: For completed films & fine cuts. If you feel you have a strong rough cut, you can submit in this category.
  • Early Introduction: For films still in production or development. We prioritize Standard entries for broadcast consideration but use the Early Introduction category to get films on our radar and for early rough cuts.
  • Short: If your film is 35 minutes or less, please submit in this category.

Calls for Entries From Our Friends: 
Submissions are now open for the 2020 Cinema Eye Honors awards for Nonfiction Feature and Nonfiction Short Films. Early submissions will be accepted through the month of June, with a final deadline of Friday, August 2 for Nonfiction Short Films and September 13 for Nonfiction Feature Films.

 Only in New York (Works-in-Progress Features or Webseries) is accepting submissions– an opportunity for filmmakers with works-in-progress (either features or series) to have intimate roundtable meetings with industry figures from the fields of distribution, financing, festival programming, and more.

The Women's Suffrage Centennial is currently accepting Vision Grant applications for the development of programming related to the U.S. Women’s Suffrage Centennial in 2020. 

Vision Grants offer up to $1,500 in support of brainstorming, researching, and professional development for organizations working collaboratively to develop new ideas and strategies for public-facing humanities projects.

Action Grants offer up to $5,000 to implement humanities projects that encourage public audiences to reflect on their values, explore new ideas, and engage with others in their community. These grants require organizations to demonstrate a match of at least one-to-one. Requests related to the U.S. Women's Suffrage Centennial in 2020, the Erie Canal Bicentennial, and the prison ecosystem are welcome.

The next Action Grant deadline is October 1st for projects starting 1/1/2020 or later.
