Hi - this is Congressman Andy Levin from the swing state of Michigan.
My area of the state backed Barack Obama both times and Trump in 2016. The Detroit Free Press recently wrote, "Macomb County is Michigan's political promised land in the 2020 presidential race." The Daily Beast calls it "Michigan's bellwether."
I represent this must-win county in a must-win state. I looked carefully at the presidential field. And I decided that Elizabeth Warren is our best bet to defeat Donald Trump in 2020. Warren will most inspire voters in Michigan and around the nation.
If you want to defeat Trump, I ask you join me in endorsing Elizabeth Warren and donating to her campaign right now. With two weeks until Iowa, please also volunteer at least once to call Iowa voters. Or pack your snow shoes and visit Iowa (with me and other Road Warriors) in the final two weeks.
To win swing states like Michigan, we need someone with an economic message that's both inspiring and achievable -- because people are hurting and they need help now. We need someone with an anti-corruption message to send a signal to Democrats, Republicans, and Independents fed up with the system. We need someone who, in their bones, gets the connection between racial and economic justice.
That's Elizabeth Warren.
She's rolled out wave after wave of ambitious plans on kitchen-table stuff -- higher wages, universal childcare, relieving student debt, cutting prescription prices, saving families thousands in medical bills.
Her "economic patriotism" agenda is all about creating more jobs, economic freedom, and prosperity here in the United States -- and it’s perfect for Macomb County! She knows that relieving student debt and medical debt mean moms, dads, and young people are liberated to start a small business that grows into a big business and expands our economy.
What's truly motivated many voters is that she connects her big plans to her personal story of struggle -- growing up poor in Oklahoma, nearly losing her family home after her dad's heart attack, struggling to afford college, and nearly opting out of the job market due to the cost of child care.
This girl from the Plains, of modest background, connects with people beyond political labels. One lifelong Republican voter who my friends at the PCCC met in Iowa said, "she brought me to tears with the history of her life." He has since publicly endorsed Warren and now volunteers for her. Can you do the same, Friend? And chip in $3 to fuel Warren's grassroots campaign before Iowa.
We can acknowledge the political elephant in the room. Millionaire pundits on TV and corporate CEOs actively root for establishment candidates to win. When Elizabeth Warren proposes a 2 cent wealth tax to pay for her proposals, these influential people see a threat to their power. Establishment candidates promise that "nothing will fundamentally change."
But unlike every other top competitor in the race, Elizabeth Warren is undefeated in her elections. She beat an incumbent Republican nobody thought was beatable.
And Elizabeth Warren is tough as nails. She's not going to let Donald Trump or powerful CEO's push her around. She did not let corporate America push her around when she created the consumer protection agency. She called for the CEO of Wells Fargo to resign after his gross corruption and cheating of consumers -- and he did.
It's go time, Friend. Think hard. Think about the country you want for your family. Think about who you want in the White House -- and know that you are not alone in thinking that.
