February 6th, 2023

District 31,

The 2023 Legislative Session is here and fully underway! I am proud to have been elected to serve as the State Senator for our District, which includes communities in Anoka and Isanti counties.

I serve on the Elections, and State and Local Government and Veterans Committees. I am increasingly excited to bring your voice to the Minnesota legislature and fight for your values. When I served in the Minnesota House, I dedicated myself to protecting your freedoms and pushing back against big government. I look forward to applying this same commitment in the senate as I fight to return Minnesota’s historic over taxation and protecting parental rights in every aspect.

The Road So Far:

So far, I have been the Chief or Co-author on 45 pieces of Legislation, here are just a few:

SF-0276: A bill relating to U.S. Highway 10 Segment additional Lane Construction

SF-0140: A bill relating to Ballot reconciliation and post-election review requirements to be completed before a canvassing board may certify its report on the results of an election.

SF-0312: Capital investment to mitigate contaminants in the City of Andover.

SF-951: Proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution providing that the right of Citizens to be secure from unreasonable searches and seizures includes protections against unreasonable searches and seizures of electronic communication and data.

SF-881: A bill related to realizing every Minnesotan's God-given right to self-defense.

Senate Republicans Vote For Life

On January 27th, I voted in unison with my Republican colleagues to support life, especially to outlaw abortions committed in the third Trimester except to protect the life of the mother. Through a series of good-faith amendments, my colleagues and I fought to give Minnesotans bipartisan measures to protect life. All of these amendments were struck down by the Democrat majority:

What’s in the bill?

·       Enacts a fundamental right to reproductive health care for all individuals, which includes gender reassignment

·       Allows minors to receive abortions without parental consent

·       Allows minors to be sterilized without parental consent

·       Allows for abortion on demand for any reason up until the point of birth

·       Allows for race, gender, and disability-based abortions.

What happens Next?

Senate Democrats will try to pass SF:70 which will remove the last protections in the current Minnesota statute.

Democrats Vote Against An End To Social Security Taxation

On January 30th, 2023, Senate Democrats blocked an attempt by the MN GOP to relieve seniors of the burden of Social Security taxation. A Tax that only 11 out of 50 states still subject their senior population to. The measure failed along party lines with no democrats voting in favor, even though many promised to cut the tax during the 2022 midterms
