I’m the newest Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement.
John, I’m honored and humbled to share with you that I’ve been named the Ranking Member for the Judiciary’s Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration.
I came to this country when I was 16, alone, and with nothing in my pockets. After 17 years on an alphabet soup of visas to become a U.S. citizen, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to live the American Dream, a dream that is out of reach for too many immigrants today. It’s time for that to change.
As the first South Asian woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and one of only two dozen naturalized citizens in Congress, I’m ready to serve and bring my own life experiences to this critical role.
It is extremely meaningful to me that after everything it took for me to journey to the U.S., navigate the citizenship process, and win election to Congress, I will now be in this position to better move the needle and re-center our broken immigration system around dignity, humanity, and justice.
I ran for Congress because I saw a need for genuine leadership from people like me — and because of you, this is all possible. Can I ask for your support one more time to shore up our resources in light of this historic news?

I have been fighting to reform our immigration laws from the moment I first set foot in Congress, and I am proud of the landmark bills I’ve introduced, including:
- Roadmap to Freedom Resolution
- Access to Counsel Act
- Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act
- WISE Act
- Protection of Kids in Immigrant Detention Act
- HEAL Act
But for me, this work started long before I was elected to the House of Representatives. For many years, I organized as an activist for immigrants’ rights.
I sued George Bush’s administration and was recognized by President Obama — in other words, I’m not afraid to get in the trenches and I know what’s worth fighting for. I fought unjust deportations, advocated for newly naturalized and immigrant Americans, and mobilized women against cruel family separation policies.
As Ranking Member, I intend to do everything in my power to stop the GOP’s cruel agenda and fight for our communities. Will you chip in to stand with me?

It’s clear that the Republican leadership of the Judiciary Committee has no intention to engage in good faith or reform our immigration laws for the better. It is up to us to stand up to the GOP’s extreme agenda and protect our people — and I will. This is the work that I came to Congress to do. Along with the rest of our movement for all forms of social, racial, economic, and environmental justice, I promise you to never stop fighting.
In solidarity,
Pramila
