Hey John, It's Anna! The GOP has put a lot of focus on the term "socialism" in the last few years. It would appear, however, that they aren't entirely sure what falls under that umbrella term for them in the United States.
H. Con. Res. 9 passed in the House on Thursday, aimed at "denouncing the horrors of socialism," and used examples such as North Korea to make a blanket statement. But, Democrats like Mark Takano made it a point to press the GOP on whether this meant social programs like welfare and Social Security would be considered under this statement. Republicans in the house dodged the question and Rep. Thomas Massie called socialism a "moving target."
The House GOP may very well continue to press for dramatic cuts to social programs that millions of Americans rely on under the guise of "curbing socialism and government spending." It's yet another example of the GOP playing political games and using phrasing to scare the public while they take from them.
We know that when Republicans gain power they take from the average American, and give to the wealthiest few, and their deep-pocketed interest groups. Can you chip in today, help us get the message out, and tell the House GOP that they WILL NOT touch our Social Security?
