House Republicans are showing us every single day just how high the stakes are in 2024.
In case you missed it, a few weeks ago, MAGA extremists like Matt Gaetz held the entire House hostage for days, stubbornly withholding their votes for a House Speaker until their conditions were met.
Finally, House Republican leadership gave in. But that means that they surrendered to one of the MAGA caucus’ most extreme demands: Cutting programs like Medicare and Social Security.
It’s absurd. At a time when Democrats’ are lowering costs, fighting inflation and delivering much-needed relief for working families, we should be expanding Social Security and Medicare — not using them as political chess pieces. This is downright cruel.
Make no mistake: Democrats will fight tooth and nail to defend Social Security and Medicare — not strip them down. But Republicans need to flip just a handful of seats in 2024 to take control of the Senate, and if they do, they’ve made it crystal clear where they stand on this issue.
