Friend,
Two things are true: In the last year, President Biden made more climate progress than any other U.S. president in history—and there is still so much important work to get done before the end of his first term.
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) will deliver for the American people with more good-paying jobs, stronger American clean energy manufacturing, lower costs, and less pollution—particularly in historically disadvantaged communities. But too many voters are still unaware of the IRA and everything it will accomplish.
This State of the Union is Biden's chance to call the Inflation Reduction Act what it is: a popular, transformative, job-creating, cost-lowering, world-historic victory in the fight against climate change.
He can't stop there. The IRA was just the beginning. It's now incumbent upon Biden to chart a clear course forward to finish the job and fulfill his climate commitments.
Biden must also use the State of the Union to make the case for effective, equitable IRA implementation and ambitious executive climate action to keep his climate and environmental justice goals within reach.
We'll be watching Biden's State of the Union and live-tweeting our reactions. Join us tomorrow, Tuesday February 7th, at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT for the climate perspective on the speech! (You don't need a Twitter account to follow along.)
Onward,
