TREC advisory committees have made several recommendations for rule changes and adoption that the Commissioners will discuss and potentially propose during the TREC Meeting on February 13. Get the highlights of what will be considered, including inspection report rule changes, proposed SAE requirements, and changes that affect broker responsibility and oversight of sales agents' brokerage activity.
The revised forms adopted by the Texas Real Estate Commission last November are mandatory for use as of February 1, with the exception the revised Notice to Prospective Buyer (TREC 57-0) form, which will remain a voluntary use form. Get more details, including redline versions and direct links to the new forms.
Homebuyers and sellers in Texas should be cautious about hiring inspectors who offer to do walkthrough, abbreviated inspections that don't follow TREC's Real Estate Inspector Standards of Practice (SOPs) and don't come with a completed TREC Property Inspection Report Form (REI 7-6), regardless of any additional report the inspector provides.
Texas inspectors are required to follow SOPs and provide the TREC promulgated form, and not doing so could result in disciplinary action from TREC for the inspector and an incomplete, unusable inspection of a property for consumers.
Earn up to four hours of continuing education (CE) credit by attending the Texas Real Estate Commission Meeting on Monday, February 13, at 10 a.m. CT in Austin. Breaks called by the Commissioners during the meeting do not count toward CE credit, and you do not automatically earn four hours if the meeting is shorter than four hours. Make sure to sign in when you arrive to ensure you receive CE.
