We need President Biden to stand up to extremists in Congress!

Dear John,

Tomorrow night, President Biden will deliver his State of the Union address before a divided Congress. While the focus will likely be on the ongoing war in Ukraine, inflation, and a number of other pressing issues, we also urge the President to take this opportunity to make it clear that cutting benefits in exchange for raising the debt ceiling is a red line he will not cross.

Because right now we have hardliners in Congress who have shown a willingness to push our country to the brink of economic collapse unless severe cuts are made to Social Security and Medicare.

That’s why the National Committee will be listening carefully to ensure that the President reaffirms his campaign promises to protect the benefits you’ve paid into and earned. More than that, we want President Biden to tell Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy that benefit cuts are a non-starter and will not be included as part of any debt ceiling or budget negotiation.

With your strong support, the National Committee will fight against legislative efforts now underway to squeeze workers and retirees like you, by targeting the benefits you’ve contributed to for decades … and we’ll continue to expose hardline GOP lawmakers who are fighting for the interests of Wall Street brokers, huge insurance companies and Big Pharma executives at your expense.

We need to stand strong against right-wing politicians who are determined to destroy our nation’s safety net programs while they keep cutting taxes for the wealthy.

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
President & CEO
